Date: June 5, 2009

Location: School of Social Service Administration
969 East 60th Street
Chicago, IL 60637

The founders and faculty of the School of Social Service Administration (SSA) have been committed to building the social work profession on an intellectual as well as a humanitarian foundation. The faculty of SSA have contributed both to this research on social problems and to the development of interventions based on this foundation. Scholars, such as Laura Epstein, William Reid, and Ed Mullen laid the groundwork for both evidence-based social work practice and for integrative practice. This symposium will consider how the contributions of these innovators provide effective models for transferring social science knowledge into agency practice. Presenters will focus on the evolution of Task-Centered Practice, Evidence-Based Practice, and Cognitive-Integrative Practice.

This one day symposium will examine how evidence-based practice is being implemented to facilitate the development of a learning organization in a state agency and in community programs. Challenges and solutions to implementation and dissemination of evidence-based and integrative practice, as well as implications for further development of this approach to social work, will be discussed.

This symposium is sponsored in part by the Rhoda G. Sarnat Lecture. The Lecture was founded at the University of Chicago School of Social Service Administration through the generosity of Rhoda and Bernard Sarnat. It is delivered annually by a prominent researcher or practitioner on a topic especially pertinent to clinical social work.

Please register online for this event. Registration cost is $75 or $100 to receive six CEUs*. Registration cost includes continental breakfast, lunch, and a reception.
